Gunmen kill Bharatiya Janata Party leader in Indian-controlled Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) — Unidentified gunmen believed to be militants Tuesday shot dead a local level leader of India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.

The slain leader identified as Javid Ahmad Dar was attacked outside his residence at village Brazloo Jagir of Kulgam district, about 56 km south of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

Police blame militants for the killing.”Militants today fired upon Javid Ahmad Dar outside his residence from a point-blank range here,” a police official posted in Kulgam told Xinhua.

Reports said Dar was a BJP member in charge of a local constituency segment for the last three years.Following the killing, police teams rushed to the spot to nab the assailants.

Last week gunmen barged into the rented accommodation of a BJP leader in adjacent Anantnag district and shot him dead along with his wife. The husband was a rural body head, while his wife was a rural body member. Enditem
