Manchester United signs Sesko from RB Leipzig
LONDON, Aug. 9 (Xinhua) — Manchester United has announced the signing of Slovenia international Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig, bolstering their attacking options ahead of the new season.
The 22-year-old forward has signed a contract until June 2030, the club confirmed in a statement.
Over the past two seasons, Sesko has scored more goals than any other player under the age of 23 in Europe’s top five leagues. In the 2024-25 campaign alone, he netted 21 goals and provided six assists for Leipzig.
Since making his debut in 2021 and becoming Slovenia’s youngest-ever senior international, Sesko has earned 41 caps and scored 16 goals for his country.
Newcastle United were also keen to secure his signature, but the striker ultimately opted for a move to Old Trafford.
“The history of Manchester United is obviously very special, but what really excites me is the future,” he said.
“When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything is in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies again soon.
“From the moment that I arrived, I could feel the positive energy and family environment that the club has created. It is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfil all of my ambitions,” he said. ■
