Media dialogue deepens China-Croatia ties, cooperation
ZAGREB, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) — The China-Croatia Media Dialogue, the first of its kind, was held in the Croatian capital on Monday, bringing together over 30 former government officials and media representatives from the two countries.
In his keynote speech at the dialogue, Huo Xiaoguang, vice president of Xinhua News Agency, said the media of the two countries should serve as a driving force for mutual understanding and trust, share the vivid accounts of the two nations advancing hand in hand across various fields, and actively highlight the tangible benefits that China-Croatia cooperation brings to both sides as well as Europe.
Both sides need to explore the paths of media development in the era of digitalization. “We should embrace technological innovation, integrate new technologies into every stage of news production and dissemination, enrich the forms of media content, and enhance production efficiency, so that more stories can reach audiences and touch hearts,” he said.
Xinhua News Agency, as the national news agency of China, is ready to strengthen data, technology, and application sharing with Croatian media partners, and work together to turn the technological dividends of the mobile Internet era into greater media productivity, Huo added.
Ivo Josipovic, former Croatian president, called for deepening bilateral economic partnerships, strengthening scientific and educational cooperation, connecting young researchers and entrepreneurs, and enhancing cultural diplomacy and people-to-people ties as the true essence of friendship during his keynote speech at the dialogue.
Chinese Ambassador to Croatia Qi Qianjin, in his keynote speech at the dialogue, said that Chinese and Croatian media have already established cooperative ties, which serve as an important bridge for enhancing mutual understanding between the two sides. “I believe that through joint efforts, we will overcome geographical distances and cultural differences, pursue shared aspirations, and meet common challenges,” he said.
Moreover, Marijana Sever Tot, editor-in-chief of the weekend edition of Jutarnji List, and Igor Alborghetti, editor-in-chief of the Express weekly, called for strengthening ties and cooperation with Chinese media, as well as for objective reporting and a better understanding of China, in their speeches at the dialogue. ■
