GLOBALink | Xinjiang’s Horgos port sees 3,000 trips by China-Europe freight trains
URUMQI, June 2 (Xinhua) — The number of China-Europe freight trains handled by Horgos port in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region has reached 3,057 as of June 30, with a cargo volume of 4.287 million tons, up 52.5 percent year on year, the port customs has said.

The number of inbound trains has reached 695, seeing an increase of 195.7 percent year on year.
Local railway authorities expanded the capacity of the Alataw Pass and the Horgos Port and optimized the operation of production in 2020.

Through better coordination among railway, customs, border control authorities, the crossing-border time has been reduced to less than one hour from 3.5 hours, the sources said.

As the COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected sea and air transport capacity, the China-Europe freight train service has played a significant role in stabilizing international logistics. The service has ensured the smooth transportation of goods including epidemic control materials, given its stability and all-weather features.
