Turkey says destroys 28 PKK targets in northern Iraq

ANKARA, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Turkish air campaign destroyed at least 28 targets of Turkey’s outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in northern Iraq, Turkey’s defense ministry said on Tuesday.

More than 20 aircraft launched an air operation in the Asos region near the Iranian border and targets including shelters, ammunition depots, caves were destroyed, it said.

The operation was conducted with the cooperation of Turkey’s National Intelligence Operation, said the ministry.
Turkey regularly conducts cross-border operations on PKK bases in northern Iraq.

The PKK, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, has been rebelling against the Turkish government for over 30 years, which has claimed the lives of more than 40,000 people. Enditem
