Liverpool reopens six-point lead over Arsenal after Nunez late show at Brentford
Darwin Nunez scored two goals in injury time as Liverpool won 2-0 away to Brentford to reopen their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League on Saturday.
An entertaining game appeared to end in a 0-0 draw, despite both sides having chances, before the Uruguayan striker latched onto a low cross from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the first minute of injury time, turning the ball past goalkeeper Mark Flekken.
Brentford had defended well all game, but their work was undone by the opening goal, and moments later Nunez doubled Liverpool’s lead with a powerful shot after controlling a pass from Harvey Elliott to make it 2-0.
Atletico loses, Barca held to draw in La Liga
Antoine Griezmann missed a late penalty as La Liga leader Atletico Madrid slumped to a surprise 1-0 defeat in the south of Madrid away to Leganes on Saturday.
Matija Nastasic scored the only goal of the game to end Atletico’s 15-game winning run, with a powerful header early in the second half.
Leganes goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic was another hero with a series of saves in a solid display, including one point-blank effort in the last minute of injury time to frustrate Angel Correa.
FC Barcelona also dropped two points after being held to a 1-1 draw away to Getafe, meaning they haven’t won in the Alfonso Perez Coliseum since 2019.

Bayern downs Wolfsburg in Bundesliga five-goal thriller
Bayern Munich maintained lead at the top of the Bundesliga table after Leon Goretzka’s brace secured a 3-2 win over Wolfsburg on Saturday.
With the win, Bayern led by four points over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, while Wolfsburg remained seventh.

Li Xiaopeng appointed Qingdao Hainiu head coach
Chinese Super League club Qingdao Hainiu announced on Saturday that Li Xiaopeng has been appointed the club’s new head coach.
Prior to the announcement, Li had been put in charge of a training camp of the Qingdao team for several days.
