Large quantity of drugs and narcotics-related production materials seized in eastern Myanmar
YANGON, Feb. 26 (Xinhua) — Myanmar’s security forces seized a large quantity of drugs and narcotics-related production materials in Shan state, the state-owned daily Myanma Alinn reported on Thursday.
Acting on intelligence reports of suspected drug production, a joint team of security personnel conducted a clearance operation on Feb. 24 and confiscated drugs and narcotics-related production materials near Wanlone village in Mong Hsat township, the report said.
Seized items included Promethazine-branded cough syrup, food coloring materials, hundreds of small bottles containing unidentified liquid, sacks of unidentified white powder, opium, a heroin block, white crystalline substances, and a large quantity of WY stimulant tablets, it said.
In addition, suspected WY production powder, weighing scales, a generator, mixers, drying trays, and other related equipment were also recovered, it added.
Officials said experts will conduct detailed examinations of the seized substances. The items will be handed over to relevant departments in accordance with procedures and destroyed following established regulations, the report said.
Investigations are ongoing to identify those involved and take effective legal action, it said.
Myanmar continues to cooperate with international and regional partners, including the United Nations and neighboring countries, in combating drug production and trafficking. Enditem
