Oviedo announces Guillermo Almada as third coach of season
MADRID, Dec. 16 (Xinhua) — Real Oviedo has appointed Uruguayan coach Guillermo Almada after reaching an agreement with Spanish second-division side Valladolid.
Almada has signed a contract through the end of the season.
Midseason moves between Spanish clubs are rare, as they require the clubs involved to agree a transfer fee.
Almada becomes Oviedo’s third coach of the campaign, replacing Luis Carrion, who was dismissed after Sunday’s 4-0 loss away to Sevilla extended his winless spell. The defeat left Oviedo second from bottom of La Liga with 10 points from 16 games and at risk of being cut adrift in the relegation zone.
Almada arrives after a difficult period at Valladolid, which sits 10th in the second tier. Some Valladolid supporters had called for his dismissal following Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Andorra. ■
