Kimmich keeps Bayern grounded ahead of PSG showdown
BERLIN, Nov. 2 (Xinhua)
Experience appears to guide Joshua Kimmich toward simple truths.
While Bayern Munich fans are riding high ahead of the club’s key UEFA Champions League clash at title holders Paris Saint-Germain, the midfielder is keeping emotions in check.
“Titles in football have never been won in November,” the Germany international said, noting that a strong start guarantees nothing.
After 15 straight wins to open the 2025-26 season, Bayern enters Tuesday’s game against PSG brimming with confidence but wary of complacency.
“If we keep our pace, we are hard to beat,” said sporting director Max Eberl, calling the Paris meeting “a test between Europe’s top teams.”
Back home, pundits have already declared the Bundesliga title race over, yet Europe remains the real measure.
“We expect the highest intensity in European football. They are confident, we are confident,” coach Vincent Kompany said. He urged his players to savor “a unique game,” but echoed Kimmich’s caution.
“A good start means you must keep pushing forward,” Kompany said. “There’s no point worrying about results. The most important thing is to enjoy football at that level.”
Despite Bayern’s perfect form, Kompany refuses to ease up, demanding the same effort “down to the last meter.”
The club’s 3-0 win over 2023-24 Bundesliga champion Bayer Leverkusen last week added to its momentum. Even with Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Luis Diaz on the bench for an hour, Kimmich insisted the team’s standard never drops.
“We play the same good football no matter who is on the pitch,” he said, adding that the current group’s depth and spirit would “lead to titles.”
He praised the club’s fringe players for matching the intensity of the starters, calling this squad “on a higher level than most Bayern teams in past years.”
Eberl hailed the team’s “joy, determination and energy,” while Kompany said the squad returned from the break “in top condition, with no fitness concerns.”
“The Paris game won’t decide the Champions League,” Kompany added. “But we still want to win every match.”
As Bayern members convened for a general assembly on Sunday, the first team and staff stayed behind, fully focused on the night that awaits in Paris. ■
