Busy days for promoted Burnley in transfer market

LONDON, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) — Burnley on Thursday completed a busy 24 hours in the transfer market by signing goalkeeper Martin Dubravka from Newcastle United.

Dubravka leaves St James’ Park after 179 first team appearances for Newcastle in seven and a half seasons at the club, and the Slovak will replace James Trafford, who left Burnley in July to return to Manchester City.

“I’m delighted to be here,” Dubravka told the official Burnley website, adding that it was “a really exciting time to be joining,” the outfit that returned to the Premier League at the end of last season after one campaign in the Championship.

“I’ve only heard really positive things about the club, the culture and the environment we work in, so I’m excited about getting going with the season kicking off next weekend.”

Dubravka’s arrival comes just a day after the club sealed a move for French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea.

21-year-old Ugochukwu spent last season on loan at Southampton, making 26 appearances and has agreed a five-year contract to play at the Turf Moor-based club.

Burnley are also thought to be close to signing another Chelsea striker, with Armando Broja in talks over the terms of his contract after the two clubs agreed terms for a transfer. ■
