Fuel prices in Cambodia rise further due to ongoing Middle East conflict
PHNOM PENH, March 17 (Xinhua) — Retail oil prices in Cambodia continued to soar further for next three days due to the escalation of the Middle East conflict, the Ministry of Commerce said Monday midnight.
In an announcement, the Ministry of Commerce said a liter of regular gasoline will cost 5,500 riels (1.37 U.S. dollars) from Tuesday to Thursday, up 5.7 percent from 5,200 riels in the past three days.
Diesel will go for 6,550 riels per liter, up 2.3 percent from 6,400 riels, the announcement added.
Since the outbreak of the Middle East conflict, the price of regular gasoline in Cambodia rose by 42.8 percent, as the price of diesel increased by 70 percent, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The ministry said on Saturday that more than 400 out of the kingdom’s 6,300 fuel depots and gas stations had halted their business operations due to the delays in the arrival of new fuel stock.
The Southeast Asian country entirely relies on imported diesel and petroleum, as its seabed’s oil reserves have not been exploited yet. (1 riels equals 0.00025 U.S. dollars) ■
