Natural disasters leave 6 dead, 11 injured in Vietnam so far this month
HANOI, May 7 (Xinhua) — Torrential rain, hail with thunderstorms and lightning killed six people and injured 11 others in Vietnamese localities from May 1 to 7, according to the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Vietnam News Agency.
On Monday afternoon, a landslide at a construction site in the central province of Ha Tinh left three workers dead and four others injured.
Three other deaths from natural disasters over the last few days were reported in Quang Ninh, Yen Bai and Long An provinces.
Hundreds of houses were damaged in the northern and central regions due to hailstorms and heavy rain, Vietnam News Agency reported.
The committee asked local authorities to closely follow the weather forecast and take active responsive measures.
According to the General Statistics Office, natural disasters left 10 missing and injured five others in Vietnam in the first four months of this year.
Total property losses during the cited period were estimated at 224.6 billion Vietnamese dong (8.8 million U.S. dollars). ■
