Flick eyes win over Benfica for Barca doctor Minarro
FC Barcelona has to overcome tragedy when it takes on Benfica in the second leg of their Champions League tie on Tuesday night aiming to defend a 1-0 lead from the first leg.
Barcelona’s La Liga game at home to Osasuna on Saturday night was postponed following the shock death of club doctor Carles Minarro prior to the game and the club has asked UEFA to allow the players to not speak to the press prior to the game as a mark of respect.
“It is a great loss, he was a great person and an excellent doctor, who was incredible for the team and the club and a key piece in our team. We will miss him,” said Flick.
“We want to play for him to tomorrow and we want to win this important match for him. We are prepared for that,” added the coach.

Sabalenka beats Bronzetti to reach Indian Wells last 16
Women’s top seed Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus cruised into the round of 16 at Indian Wells on Monday by overcoming Italian Lucia Bronzetti 6-1, 6-2.
Sabalenka won 75 percent of her first serve points and converted five of 12 break points en route to victory in an hour and 15 minutes.

Four Chinese boxers advance to round of 16 at IBA Women’s World Championships
Four Chinese boxers, including last year’s double national gold medalist Cai Yan, triumphed in the first round of the IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Nis, Serbia, on Monday.
Cai, the reigning champion of China in the 57 kg category, defeated Maryina Muliarchyk of Belarus in the featherweight category (54-57kg) by referee stoppage contest (RSC) at the Cair Sports Hall.
Wei Sitong, a silver medalist at the 2024 Chinese National Championships, also secured victory by RSC as she overcame Maia Odaiju of Moldova in the flyweight division (50-52kg).
