50 killed, 291 injured in Myanmar’s Yangon-Mandalay highway accidents in 10 months
YANGON, Nov. 10 (Xinhua) — A total of 50 people were killed and 291 were injured in 155 traffic accidents on Myanmar’s Yangon-Mandalay highway between January and October this year, according to the highway traffic police force on Monday.
This marks a decrease in accidents, fatalities and injuries compared with the same period last year, which recorded 174 accidents, resulting in 82 deaths and 325 injuries, an official from the highway traffic police force told Xinhua.
The traffic accidents also caused damage estimated at over 760 million kyats (about 361,904 U.S. dollars), he said.
The 587-km Yangon-Mandalay expressway connects the country’s commercial city of Yangon and the second-largest city of Mandalay. ■
