မြန်မာနိုင်ငံ၊ ဧရာဝတီတိုင်းဒေသကြီး၊ ဘိုကလေးမြို့နယ်တွင်နေထိုင်သည့် အသက် ၄၉ နှစ်အရွယ်ရှိ ဒေါ်မေသောင်းက ၎င်း၏ ဖုန်းကင်မရာကို မျက်နှာရှေ့တွင် ချိန်ညှိလိုက်သည်။ မိုင်ပေါင်းထောင်နှင့်ချီ၍ ဝေးကွာသော နေရာရှိ သမီးဖြစ်သူ၏ ပုံရိပ်က တယ်လီဖုန်းစခရင်တွင် ပေါ်လာသောအခါတွင် ၎င်း၏မျက်နှာ တောက်ပသွားခဲ့သည်။
“တခြားနိုင်ငံတစ်ခုကို ရောက်နေတဲ့ ကျွန်မသမီးနဲ့ မျက်နှာချင်းဆိုင်စကားပြောရလိမ့်မယ်လို့ ကျွန်မတစ်ခါမှ မတွေးဖူးဘူး” ဟု ၎င်းက ရွှင်လန်းတောက်ပနေသောမျက်လုံးများဖြင့် ပြောသည်။

၎င်း၏ ဖြစ်ရပ်သည် မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတွင် ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ် စာတတ်မြောက်မှုမှတစ်ဆင့် ခရီးဝေးကွာမှုများကို ပေါင်းကူးတံတားခင်းပေးခြင်း၊ အခွင့်အလမ်းများ ဖန်တီးပေးခြင်းနှင့် မျိုးဆက်အသီးသီးမှ လူများကို အထောက်အကူပြုလျက်ရှိသည့် ဖြစ်ရပ်များစွာအနက်မှ တစ်ခုမျှသာဖြစ်သည်။

“အရင်က ကျွန်တော်ကိုယ်တိုင် အစီရင်ခံစာတွေရေးတဲ့အခါ နာရီနဲ့ ချီပြီးကြာခဲ့တယ်” ဟု ၎င်းကရှင်းပြခဲ့သည်။ အခုကတော့ AI ကိုပြောပြီး ဂရပ်ဖစ်နဲ့ ဇယားတွေကို မိနစ်ပိုင်းအတွင်း ကျွန်တော်လုပ်နိုင်ခဲ့ပြီ။ ကျွန်တော့်အတွက် ရှည်လျားတဲ့ စာရွက်စာတမ်းတွေကိုလည်း အကျဉ်းချုပ်ရေးသားနိုင်တယ်။ ကျွန်တော်အလုပ်မှာ ပိုပြီးယုံကြည်မှုရှိလာတယ်။ ကျွန်တော့်ဘေးမှာ လက်ထောက်တစ်ယောက်ရှိနေသလိုပါပဲ”ဟု ၎င်းကပြောသည်။
ကျောင်းသားများအတွက် ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ် စာတတ်မြောက်မှုသည် ကမ္ဘာကြီးထဲသို့ ဝင်ရောက်ရန် တံခါးတစ်ပေါက်ဖြစ်လာခဲ့သည်။ ဧရာဝတီတိုင်းဒေသကြီး၊ မအူပင်မြို့နယ်တွင်နေထိုင်သူ အသက် ၂၀ အရွယ် တတိယနှစ် တက္ကသိုလ်ကျောင်းသူ မစုမွန်က ၎င်း၏ညနေခင်းများကို တယ်လီဖုန်းဖြင့် အွန်လိုင်းဆွေးနွေးဟောပြောပွဲများတက်၍ ဒစ်ဂျစ်တယ်စာစောင်များကို လေ့လာသင်ယူခဲ့သည်။
“အရင်တုန်းကတော့ ကျွန်မတို့ စာကြည့်တိုက်မှာပဲ စာအုပ်တွေဖတ်နိုင်ခဲ့တာ”ဟု ၎င်းက ဆိုသည်။ “အခုကတော့ ကျွန်မအခန်းထဲကနေ နိုင်ငံတကာ ဆွေးနွေးပွဲတွေ တက်နိုင်ပါပြီ။ နိုင်ငံခြားက သူငယ်ချင်းတွေလည်း ဂရုဖွဲ့ပြီး အင်္ဂလိပ်စာ လေ့ကျင့်နိုင်တယ်” ဟု ၎င်းက ဆိုသည်။

နိုင်ငံတကာ စာတတ်မြောက်ရေးနေ့ အခမ်းအနားကို စက်တင်ဘာ ၈ ရက်က ရန်ကုန်မြို့၌ ကျင်းပခဲ့သည်။ အဆိုပါ အခမ်းအနားတွင် စာစီစာကုံးဆုများရရှိခဲ့သော ကျောင်းသား၊ ကျောင်းသူများအား ဆုချီးမြှင့်ခဲ့ကြောင်း နိုင်ငံပိုင် မြန်မာ့အသံနှင့် ရုပ်မြင်သံကြားမှ သတင်းထုတ်ပြန်ခဲ့သည်။

Feature: Digital literacy empowers people in Myanmar
YANGON, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — On a humid afternoon in Bogale township, Ayeyarwady region, 49-year-old Daw May Thaung adjusted the camera on her phone. Her face lit up as her daughter’s image appeared on the screen from thousands of miles away.

“I never imagined I could talk like this, face to face, with my daughter in another country,” she said, her eyes glistening with joy.

Only a year earlier, Daw May Thaung had known little more than how to make basic phone calls. But with the patient guidance of her 15-year-old son, she learned to navigate video chat. “He showed me step by step,” she recalled with a laugh.

“At first, I pressed the wrong buttons and accidentally cut the call. But slowly, I learned. By now, I could see my daughter’s smile whenever I missed her,” she said.

Her story was just one of many showing how digital literacy had reshaped lives in Myanmar, bridging distances, creating opportunities, and empowering people across generations.

In Yangon, 33-year-old office worker Ko Aung Min discovered how digital skills could transform his career. After completing a short online course on artificial intelligence, he began applying the tools to his daily tasks.

“Before, I made reports manually, and it took me hours,” he explained. “Now, I could ask AI to create graphs and charts in minutes. It could summarize long documents for me. I felt more confident at work. It is like I had an assistant by my side.”

For students, digital literacy became a doorway to the world. At Maubin township of Ayeyarwady region, 20-year-old third-year university student Su Mon spent her evenings attending webinars on her phone and exploring digital publications.

“In the past, we only had the textbooks in the library,” she said. “Now I could join international seminars right from my room. I also made friends abroad and could practice my English with them,” she said.

The benefits extended far beyond classrooms and offices. In a small village in Bogale, 26-year-old farmer Ko Htet Naing used his smartphone to check weather forecasts and track rice prices.

“I used to rely on guessing or listening to news,” he said. “Now I knew when to plant and where to sell for the best price. My income improved because I could make better decisions.”

A ceremony to mark the International Literacy Day was held in Yangon on Monday. Students who won prizes for their essays for the occasion were awarded during the event, the state-owned Myanmar Radio and Television reported.

As Myanmar marked the International Literacy Day, it was clear that the meaning of literacy had grown. Today, it’s not just about reading and writing, but also about knowing how to navigate apps, judge online information, and use digital tools to tackle real-life challenges.

For many people in Myanmar, digital literacy was more than a skill. It was a bridge to family, opportunity, and even a future once unimaginable. ■
