25 injured in blast in Pakistan’s garrison city Rawalpindi

ISLAMABAD, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) — A blast hit a market area in the downtown of Pakistan’s garrison city of Rawalpindi neighboring the country’s capital Islamabad on Sunday, leaving at least 25 people injured, rescue officials and police said.

Personnel of a rescue team told media that they shifted 22 injured to a local hospital while discharged three others after providing them first aid at the site in Rawalpindi, a city in the country’s eastern Punjab province.

A couple of wounded persons were in critical condition when they were shifted to the hospital, the rescue official added.
City Police Officer of Rawalpindi Mohammad Ahsan Younas told media that an improvised explosive device was planted under a cart, which exploded in the busy Ganj Mandi market near a police station roughly two kilometers away from the military headquarters.

Rescue teams, police and security forces rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.
No group or individual has claimed the attack yet.

The police officer said that it was the second attack near a police station during the last 10 days in the city. Earlier on Dec. 4, one person was killed and seven others were injured in a blast by an improvised explosive device near Pir Wadhai police station.

The police officer added that police intelligence had already reported some possible terrorist attack in the city, adding that the police has obtained some important progress in the investigation, which would help to arrest the culprits.
