Israel, Jordan close border crossings after deadly shooting attack
JERUSALEM/AMMAN, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) — Israel announced Sunday that it has closed all three of its border crossings with Jordan after three people were reportedly killed in the morning at one of the crossings.
Earlier on Sunday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said a driver approached the Allenby Bridge, a border point between Jordan and the occupied West Bank, from the Jordanian side in a truck, exited his vehicle, and opened fire on Israelis at the crossing, leaving three dead at the scene.
Israel’s Magen David Adom rescue service initially identified the three as security guards, while a later statement by the Israeli military said they were civilians employed at the crossing.
The attacker was shot dead by Israeli forces, according to the IDF. Israel’s state-owned Kan TV reported that early indications suggest the gunman was a Jordanian national.
