Liverpool defener Van Dijk more positive about Anfield stay
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk says there has been progress in talks over extending his contract at the club.
The 33-year-old Dutch international, who has made 313 first team appearances since joining from Southampton in 2017, is out of contract at the end of the season and could leave on a free transfer at the end of June.
In March, the defender said he had “no idea” if he would still be at Liverpool next season, but in his remarks made on Sunday after Liverpool’s 3-2 defeat to Fulham and published in the UK sports press on Monday, he seemed to be more optimistic about staying.

Southampton sacks coach Juric after Premier League relegation confirmed
Southampton has parted company with coach Ivan Juric the day after the club’s relegation from the Premier League to the Championship was confirmed on Sunday with a 3-1 defeat away to Tottenham.
The defeat leaves the ‘Saints’ with just 10 points from 31 matches this season, 22 points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers that sits in 17th place with 32 points, with just 21 points left to play for.
“We can confirm that we have today reached an agreement with our Men’s First Team Manager, Ivan Juric, to end his spell at the club.”
“With relegation to the Championship now confirmed, we believe it is important to give fans, players and staff some clarity on the future as we head into a very important summer,” said the club, adding that the search for a new coach will begin immediately.

Sao Paulo hit by injuries ahead of Alianza Lima clash
Sao Paulo is likely to be without midfielder Oscar and attacker Lucas Moura for its home Copa Libertadores clash against Alianza Lima on Thursday.
Lucas has not played for almost a month due to a knee injury while Oscar missed Sao Paulo’s goalless away draw with Atletico Mineiro on Sunday because of a hamstring strain.
Both players trained separately from Sao Paulo’s main group on Monday.

Teenage markswoman Wang claims maiden ISSF World Cup gold
Eighteen-year-old Chinese shooter Wang Zifei clinched her first ISSF World Cup gold medal by winning the women’s 10m air rifle final at the ISSF World Cup here on Monday.
Wang excelled at last year’s junior world championships in Lima, Peru, where she claimed gold medals in both the women’s and mixed team 10m air rifle events. Her first ISSF World Cup medal was a silver in the women’s 10m air rifle at last year’s event in Baku.
