Europa League final between Man Utd and Hotspur in Bilbao more than just football
The Premier League will be transported to the Basque region of northern Spain on Wednesday when Manchester United face Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League final in Athletic Club Bilbao’s impressive San Mames Stadium.
The match offers the winner the chance to qualify for next season’s Champions League and to salvage something from what has been a dreadful domestic season for both teams.
Amorim has failed to do that in the Premier League, but his side has progressed unbeaten to the final, beating hosts Athletic Club Bilbao in the semi-final after several controversial refereeing decisions all went its way.
Tottenham’s campaign has been even worse, with speculation that coach Ange Postecoglou will leave in the summer even if his team lifts the trophy.
Spurs are 17th in the table with 21 defeats from 37 games, and although 63 goals scored points to a laudable commitment to attack, the 61 goals conceded also highlights chaotic defending.
Postecoglou is without the influential duo of James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski for the final.

Wang Chuqin overpowered Wong Chun Ting to reach the fourth round of the World Table Tennis Championships on Tuesday.
The second-seeded Chinese played an aggressive game as he nailed a 12-10, 11-6, 11-5, 11-7 victory over the 33-year-old Hong Kong veteran.
“He is a quite strong player and I tried not to make mistakes,” said Wang. “By taking the first set, I felt I was on a right way.”

Man Utd coach Amorim: Winning Europa League won’t salvage season
Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim was realistic about his club’s season when he spoke to the press ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur.
The winner will earn a place in next season’s Champions League, but with Tottenham 17th in the Premier League and Manchester United just one place above in its worst season since the league was formed in 1992, Amorim admitted that winning a European trophy would not compensate for a bad year domestically.
“Nothing is going to change our season, but everybody knows winning a European title can help us have the feeling that can help us to build a future.”
“A new future is not the case, but it’s going to help us to finish the season and many people will look at our team in a different way because winning a European title is really important,” said Amorim.
Defeat would mean missing out entirely on a place in Europe next season and a blow to a club that has lost 300 million pounds over the last three years.
Amorim also revealed that Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee would be in the matchday squad, although he added that they would struggle to play the full game.

Zhejiang Lions beat Beijing Ducks to win club’s first-ever CBA title
After defeating the Beijing Ducks 125-118 in Game 6 to win the best-of-seven finals 4-2 on Tuesday, the Zhejiang Lions claimed their first-ever Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) title in the club’s 20-year history.
“I want to thank all my players for their great efforts. There were ups and downs throughout the season, but we managed to get mature in this process,” Zhejiang head coach Wang Bo said after the game. “We were eager to win the title at home in Game 5 and didn’t adjust our mentality properly. Today, we trust ourselves all the time to clinch the victory with solidarity.”
