Brazil, Ecuador through as Chile crashes out
Brazil and Ecuador secured their spots at the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, advancing with games to spare in South American qualifying.
Chile’s campaign came to a halt after another underwhelming result, ending its chances of reaching the expanded tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
In Sao Paulo, Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior scored in the first half as five-time world champion Brazil booked its ticket with a 1-0 victory over Paraguay.
The result marked new manager Carlo Ancelotti’s first victory since taking charge late last month and left Brazil third in the South American standings with 25 points, one ahead of fifth-placed Paraguay.
In Buenos Aires, Thiago Almada struck late as reigning world champion Argentina salvaged a 1-1 home draw against Colombia.
Liverpool forward Luis Diaz gave the visitor the lead against the run of play when he cut inside from the left wing and skipped past three defenders before coolly firing a shot past Emiliano Martinez.
But Lyon midfielder Almada put his side on level terms nine minutes from time by receiving Exequiel Palacios’ pass and advancing into the box before drilling a low effort into the far corner.

Man City completes Cherki signing ahead of Club World Cup
Manchester City has announced the signing of Rayan Cherki from Lyon in deal worth 34 million pounds (46 million U.S. dollars).
“Manchester City has completed the signing of Rayan Cherki from Lyon. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has put pen to paper on a five-year deal, which keeps him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2030,” the club announced on its official website just moments before the transfer window allowing players to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup closed.
Cherki made 20 appearances for Lyon last season, scoring 12 goals, and made his debut for the France national team in last week’s 5-4 UEFA Nations League defeat to Spain.

Dean Huijsen presented as new Real Madrid player
New Real Madrid signing Dean Huijsen was officially presented as a new player at the club’s Valdebebas training ground on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old’s transfer to Real Madrid from Bournemouth for almost 60 million euros was confirmed on May 17th, but he wasn’t officially presented due to his commitments with the Spain national team and he played both the semi-final and the final of the UEFA Nations League, which the Spanish lost on penalties to Portugal on Sunday night.
Although he was born in the Netherlands, Huijsen grew up close to Malaga and moves to Real Madrid after an impressive debut season in the Premier League.

China scores sole goal in penalty against Bahrain to end World Cup qualifying campaign
18-year-old young forward Wang Yudong scored a late penalty for China as the home team beat Bahrain 1-0 here on Tuesday to finish its FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifying journey.
After losing to Indonesia and Saudi Arabia respectively last Thursday , China and Bahrain had been eliminated from the group and failed to qualify for next phase of Asian qualifier playoff tournament.
