Al Ahly, Inter Miami draw in goalless FIFA Club World Cup opener
Egypt international forward Trezeguet missed a first-half penalty as Al Ahly drew 0-0 with Inter Miami in the opening match of the FIFA Club World Cup here on Saturday.
Al Ahly looked more dangerous early at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami but the Cairo-based side was denied by a series of fine saves from Oscar Ustari.
The eight-time Ballon d’Or winner then delivered a defense-splitting pass for Noah Allen, only for the defender to be beaten to the ball by the onrushing goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy.
Inter Miami was lucky not to go 1-0 down in the 30th minute when Abou Ali slotted the ball into the back of the net only to be flagged for a marginal offside.
Messi looked more threatening as the game progressed as the Florida club began dictating terms. The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star forced another smart save from El Shenawy with a venomous effort from the edge of the 18-yard box before curling a low 35-yard free-kick around the well and into the side netting.
Inter Miami’s next match will be against Porto in Atlanta on June 19 while Al Ahly will face Palmeiras in New Jersey the same day.

Inter Milan likely to miss forward Taremi for Club World Cup
Inter Milan could be without striker Mehdi Taremi for the Club World Cup as the player has been unable to leave Iran, it was reported.
Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that the outbreak of the conflict between Israel and Iran has interrupted Taremi’s travel plans.
Taremi played in Iran’s 3-0 win at home to DPR Korea on June 10th scoring the second goal in the World Cup qualifier and he was due to travel to Los Angeles to join with his Inter team-mates. Inter Milan is in Group E alongside Monterrey, River Plate and Urawa Reds.

Olympic champion Zheng defeated in semifinals at Queen’s club
China’s Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen ended her journey at the Queen’s Club Championships as the world No. 5 lost to American Amanda Anisimova 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 in the women’s singles semifinals here on Saturday.
The 22-year-old Zheng was obviously not in her best form as she not only struggled in her first serves but also made many unforced errors. Although she managed to level the match while world No. 15 Anisimova also struggled in her own serving games in the second set, the top seed of the WTA 500 grass-court event was not good enough to outplay Anisimova.
Anisimova will face German qualifier Tatjana Maria in Sunday’s final as the 37-year-old mom of two beat Australian Open champion Madison Keys on Saturday.

China takes gold, silver in mixed team events at ISSF World Cup in Munich
Chinese shooters Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai clinched the 10m air pistol mixed team gold medal, while Wang Zifei and Sheng Lihao added a silver in the 10m air rifle mixed team as the ISSF World Cup Munich leg concluded on Friday.
Wang and Sheng, world record holders in their respective individual event, led the qualification round with a new world record score of 635.9 points, edging the previous mark by 0.1. The pair then delivered a solid performance in the final but fell short against India’s Arya Borse and Arjun Babuta, settling for silver.
