PSG crushes Atletico Madrid in their Club World Cup opening game
Recently crowned Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain opened their Club World Cup campaign with a commanding 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Sunday.
The French side dominated the first half, and although Atletico improved slightly after the break, they created just one clear chance – which they missed – before PSG sealed the win in the closing minutes.
“We had the objective of making history this season, but this is a new chapter,” PSG coach Luis Enrique said after the match.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia posed a constant threat down the left and forced Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak into an early save before Fabian Ruiz broke the deadlock in the 19th minute.
The PSG keeper launched a rapid counterattack that ended with Vitinha doubling the lead, curling home a shot after being left unmarked.

Gattuso named Italy coach following Spalletti’s exit
Former AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has been appointed head coach of Italy’s national football team, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) confirmed Sunday, just days after Luciano Spalletti’s departure.
Spalletti had taken charge of the Azzurri in August 2023 on a reported three-year deal, but resigned following a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign and a 3-0 loss to Norway in Italy’s opening 2026 World Cup qualifier earlier this month.
Gattuso, 47, spent the majority of his playing career with AC Milan, where he helped the Rossoneri to two Serie A titles and two UEFA Champions League crowns. He was also part of Italy’s 2006 World Cup-winning squad.
Since hanging up his boots in 2013, Gattuso has coached the likes of AC Milan, Napoli, Valencia and Marseille, and most recently spent the 2024/25 at the helm of Croatian side Hajduk Split.

China men’s volleyball team has huge potential, says founding Chair of Volleyball World
As the Xi’an leg of the 2025 Volleyball Nations League (VNL) wrapped up on Sunday, Volleyball World Board member and founding Chair Fernando Lima expressed optimism about the future of the Chinese men’s team, saying their return to the Olympic stage is within reach.
