Swiatek routs Anisimova to win Wimbledon title
LONDON, July 12 (Xinhua) — Iga Swiatek ruthlessly thrashed Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 to win her maiden Wimbledon title on Saturday.
The eighth-seeded Pole became the first female player to win the Wimbledon trophy with a double bagel in the Open Era, while the only other instance at a Grand Slam came in the French Open in 1988 when Steffi Graf beat Natasha Zvereva.
Swiatek converted six of the nine break points she created throughout the 57-minute match, making only 11 unforced errors against Anisimova’s 24.
“It seems super surreal,” Swiatek said during the trophy presentation.
“I didn’t even dream (about winning Wimbledon) because it was way too far, I feel like I’m already an experienced player after winning the Slams before but I never really expected this one,” she said.
Anisimova, who struggled with her serve from the very beginning to the end, committed five double faults, including one in her final service game.
