Spokesperson slams containing China with Taiwan question

BEIJING, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) — A Chinese mainland spokesperson on Wednesday said those who attempt to contain China with the Taiwan question are “playing fire” and “will only get themselves burned.”

Zhu Fenglian, the spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, warned that such moves by anti-China forces are “extremely dangerous.”
Zhu said so at a press briefing when asked to comment the viewpoint of some Taiwan scholars that Lithuania had been incited mainly by the United States and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities in Taiwan to challenge the one-China principle, which forced China to downgrade its diplomatic relations with Lithuania to the level of charge d’affaires.

Chinese foreign ministry had made the country’s solemn position on the issue clear, Zhu said.
The relevant acts of the DPP authorities, under the pretext of “democracy” or trade cooperation, have once again exposed the DPP’s nature of advocating “Taiwan independence” and seeking to split China, she added.

“Should the separatist forces for ‘Taiwan independence’ provoke us, force our hands or even cross the red line, we will be compelled to take resolute measures,” Zhu said.
She also said the one-China principle must be the precondition for Taiwan’s participation in regional economic cooperation.
