4 dead, 22 injured in multiple-vehicle crash in Indonesia’s Balikpapan

JAKARTA, Jan. 21 (Xinhua) — Four people died and 22 others were injured in a multiple-vehicle crash in Indonesia’s Balikpapan city, East Kalimantan province, a police officer said Friday.

A container truck running on a downhill road on Friday morning hit vehicles that were queuing for a red traffic light in Muara Rapak area, Balikpapan, the National Police’s spokesperson Inspector General Dedi Prasetyo said.

“According to the driver, the truck’s brakes didn’t work,” Prasetyo said. Of the injured, one is in a critical condition, four are seriously wounded, and 17 others suffer minor injuries. All the victims have been rushed to a nearest medical facility.
