Academy announces 276 feature films eligible for 94th Best Picture Oscar
LOS ANGELES, Jan. 20 (Xinhua) — A total of 276 feature films are eligible in the Best Picture race for the 94th Academy Awards, or the Oscars, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday.
The number is much lower than last year’s 366 as the eligibility period for this year was only 10 months.
To be eligible for consideration under rules provisions implemented for the 94th Academy Awards year only, feature films may open in a commercial motion picture theater in at least one of six U.S. metropolitan areas: Los Angeles County; the City of New York; the Bay Area; Chicago, Illinois; Miami, Florida; and Atlanta, Georgia, between March 1, 2021, and December 31, 2021, and complete a minimum qualifying run of seven consecutive days in the same venue, said the Academy in a news release.
Nominations voting for the 94th Academy Awards will take place between Jan. 27 and Feb. 1 and nominations will be announced on Feb. 8.
The awards ceremony is set for March 27, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood in the western U.S. state of California. Enditem
