Asia Album: 18 elephants found dead in India’s protected forest

NEW DELHI, May 15 (Xinhua) — At least 18 elephants were suspected to have been killed by lightning in the protected Kondali forest reserve, India’s northeastern state of Assam.
India is home to nearly 30,000 elephants, about 60 percent of the wild Asian elephant population. An estimated 6,000 or more wild Asiatic elephants live in Assam.
