67 killed, 270 injured in Myanmar’s highway accidents in Jan-Sept
YANGON, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) — A total of 67 people were killed and 270 others injured in 151 road accidents on Myanmar’s Yangon-Mandalay highway between January and September this year, according to a report from the Road Transport Administration Department on Thursday.
The figures were compared to 70 deaths and 254 injuries reported from 126 traffic accidents in the same period last year, the report said.
The causes of traffic accidents during the period included reckless driving, vehicle defects, human errors, and road and weather conditions, according to the highway traffic police.
The 587 km Yangon-Mandalay expressway, the busiest highway in Myanmar, connects the country’s commercial city Yangon with its second largest city Mandalay.
