Real Madrid pays heavy price for Copa del Rey defeat
Real Madrid will pay a heavy price in injuries and suspensions following Saturday night’s dramatic 3-2 defeat to FC Barcelona in the final of the Copa del Rey.
The final ended in controversy and there were ugly scenes with several Real Madrid players losing control after referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea awarded a free kick to Barcelona in the closing seconds, with Jude Bellingham, Lucas Vazquez and Antonio Rudiger all shown red cards for their vociferous protests.
Bellingham and Vazquez can expect bans of either one or two games, which they will serve in next season’s Copa del Rey.
However, Rudiger faces a much tougher suspension after the German hurled a bag of ice at the referee and needed to be held back by team-mates and members of the Real Madrid technical staff.

Ex-Brazil boss Dorival takes charge of Corinthians
Former Brazil national team boss Dorival Junior has been appointed manager of seven-time Brazilian Serie A champion Corinthians, the Sao Paulo-based club said on Monday.
The 63-year-old replaces Argentine Ramon Diaz, who was sacked earlier this month following the club’s poor start to the season. Local media reported that Dorival had agreed to a contract that runs until December 2026.

Striker Pedro scored twice as Flamengo rose to the top of Brazil’s Serie A standings on Sunday with a 4-0 home win over Corinthians.
Flamengo now has 14 points from six games, a point ahead of second-placed Palmeiras, while Corinthians is 12th, seven points off the pace.
