Lake in China’s Heilongjiang embraces winter fishing season

People living by Jingpo Lake, northeast China’s Heilongjiang Province, have been enjoying the tradition of ice fishing — drilling holes through the thick ice and lowering nets into the waters to catch fish.

“Hi, everyone, I’m now at the ceremony of winter fishing in Jingpo Lake, which is located in Mudanjiang City, NE China’s Heilongjiang Province. Now the outdoor temperature is around minus 20 degrees Celsius, and the lake has already frozen, which is perfect for ice fishing. The ceremony will hold several classical activities including ice fishing with large fishing nets, auction of the first fish of Jingpo Lake Winter Fishing, and folklore performance, showing the time-honored fishing and hunting culture of northern China.”

In recent years, to protect the ecosystem, local fishermen use fishing nets with larger meshes to let small fishes swim away.
