Panda-shaped solar power station leads China’s “capital of coal” on greener path
DATONG, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) –The world’s first panda-shaped photovoltaic power station is consisted of 170,000 photovoltaic panels, located in Datong city, northwest China’s Shanxi province. The power station generates 80 million kwh of solar-powered electricity annually, equal to the total annual electricity consumption of over 30 thousand households.
In the 1980s, Datong became China’s “capital of coal” as demands for its rich energy resources took off. At the same time, over-mining resulted in heavy pollution and destruction of the natural environment. But now, Datong shifts its path into developing renewable energy.
