Espanyol forward Puado suffers knee injury
MADRID, Oct. 8 (Xinhua) — Spanish La Liga club Espanyol has suffered a significant setback on Wednesday with forward Javi Puado sustaining a knee injury.
“Medical tests have shown that Javi Puado has suffered a sprain in his right knee,” informed the official club website, adding the player “was injured in training this Wednesday” and that “his progress will determine his availability.”
Confirmation of the injury came after Puado was seen on crutches at Espanyol’s training ground alongside his girlfriend and the club’s director of medical services.
Although the club has not provided a specific return date, it is likely that Puado will be sidelined for at least a month, possibly longer, depending on the severity of the injury.
Puado is a crucial player for Espanyol coach Manolo Gonzalez, having scored 12 goals last season, including a vital penalty in the final game to help the club avoid relegation. He also scored 14 times in the previous campaign to promote the Barcelona-based club back to the top tier.
The forward signed a new contract over the summer, committing to Espanyol until the end of June 2030, and has already scored two goals this season. ■
