Late Trossard goal keeps Arsenal five points clear, leaves West Ham staring at relegation
LONDON, May 10 (Xinhua) — Leandro Trossard scored a late goal as Arsenal edged West Ham United 1-0 on Sunday, restoring its five-point lead over Manchester City at the top of the Premier League and possibly condemning West Ham to relegation to the second division.
In a tense game that could have gone either way, Trossard exchanged passes with Declan Rice and saw his shot deflected into the net from 15 meters with just seven minutes left to play.
There was late drama when West Ham striker Callum Wilson fired the ball into the Arsenal net in the fifth minute of stoppage time, but the goal was ruled out after a VAR check.
West Ham’s defeat means Nottingham Forest and Leeds United are now safe from relegation, while Tottenham Hotspur can move four points clear of West Ham with a home win over Leeds on Monday.
The three earlier kickoffs on Sunday all ended in draws, with Burnley salvaging some pride at home to UEFA Europa League finalist Aston Villa.
Jaidon Anthony put the already relegated home side ahead, while Ross Barkley equalized for Aston Villa in the 42nd minute.
