Uzbekistan lifter dominates men’s 110kg with two world records at IWF World Championships
FORDE, Norway, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) — Akbar Djuraev of Uzbekistan set two world records and dominated the men’s 110kg category at the IWF World Championships here on Friday.
Djuraev broke the snatch world record with a lift of 196kg on his third attempt and improved his total world record on the fifth attempt, securing the title with results of 196kg in snatch, 232kg in clean and jerk, and a total of 428kg.
Alireza Nasiri of Iran claimed two silver medals in the clean and jerk of 231kg and a total lift of 415kg.
Uzbekistan’s Ruslan Nurudinov, 2016 Olympic champion, won three bronze medals with 186kg in snatch, 228kg in clean and jerk, and 414kg overall, while Garik Karapetyan of Armenia earned a silver medal in the snatch with 187 kg.
A total of 477 lifters from 87 countries and regions are competing at the World Championships in Forde. The 10-day event will conclude on Saturday following competitions in the women’s +86kg and men’s +110kg categories. ■
