U.S. approves 1.85-bln-USD F-35 support package to Poland
WARSAW, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) — The U.S. State Department has approved a potential sale to Poland of a package covering maintenance, logistics, and support for F-35 fighter jets, the Polish Press Agency reported Tuesday.
Citing the Pentagon’s Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), reports said General Electric Aerospace will be responsible for the operation of the contract, which is estimated at 1.85 billion U.S. dollars.
The DSCA said the sale “will support the foreign policy and national security objectives of the United States by enhancing the security of a NATO ally that continues to be an important force for political and economic stability in Europe.”
Poland ordered 32 F-35 fighter jets in 2020. The first delivery to the Polish Air Force was made last year. The F-35 jets, alongside the F-16, are expected to form the backbone of the Polish Air Force. ■
